10 Things You Can Do with the Family in Atlanta

You’ll never run out of things to do in this city. Here are some of your options for another fun weekend in Atlanta:

  1. Go to a splash pad
Beat the heat at any of the city’s splash pads. There are several in Atlanta – Center Hill is known for its “liquid tunnel,” formed by jets that spout mist and water. Historic Fourth Ward Park has overhead water sprays, while Lillian Web Park’s splash pad features an artificial waterfall.
  2. Grab a treat
Have some sweets at Atlanta’s best ice cream shops and confectioners. Cult Carts offers hand-spun cotton candy that kids and grown-ups alike will love. Queen of Creambrings you a variety of ice cream flavors, from brown butter pecan to lavender honeycomb.
  3. Check out the Georgia Aquarium
The Georgia Aquarium is home to whale sharks, manta rays, dolphins, sea lions, and other marine life. Get the chance to see these wonderful creatures up close through their Animal Encounters program. Better yet, host your child’s next birthday party here – the staff will take care of the arrangements.
  4. Visit the toy stores
Buy dolls, dress-up clothes, masks, and toy cars at the city’s most exciting toy stores. Richards Variety Store sells stuffed toys and play food, while Rhen’s Nest Toy Shop keeps it old school with dinosaur models and coloring books. Treehouse Kid &Craft offers day camp and crafting classes that the whole family will enjoy.
  5. Drop by the skate park
Bring your skateboard and have a go of the grind rails, bowls, and concrete mounds at the Arthur Langford Jr. Park and the Historic Fourth Ward Park. Of the two skate parks, the former is more beginner-friendly, being mostly flat with no steep drops.
  6. Watch a live performance at the Woodruff Arts Center
The Woodruff Arts Center is comprised of the Alliance Theater and the High Museum of Art. The center is also home to the highly acclaimed Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Come here to watch concerts and other live performances. Special exhibitions are also held at the museum throughout the year.
  7. Try the local restaurants
Atlanta is filled with top-ranking restaurants, many of which serve free meals to children when accompanied by a paying adult. Revival serves fried chicken and mac and cheese, while Ray’s Rio Bravo has great tacos. If you’re dining at Flying Biscuit Café and Wahoo! Grill between 4 to 8 p.m. or 5 to 6:30 p.m., respectively, dinner is on the house for kids 12 and under.
  8. Go on a zip line tour
The Screaming Eagle zip line tour at Historic Banning Mills is the largest and longest zip line canopy tour in the whole world. It’s also one of the safest – so enjoy 10 miles of high-speed zip lines with no worries. If you’re looking for a more laidback activity, just go to their on-site spa for some much-deserved pampering.
  9. Visit the Center for Puppetry Arts
The Center for Puppetry Arts will entertain you withvivid and imaginative puppet shows. Watch the center’s marionettes come to life through the re-telling of classic stories like “Cinderella,”“Charlotte’s Web,”“The Wizard of Oz,” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
  10. Go wall climbing
Bring the whole family to Stone Summit, a massive wall climbing facility that has something for everyone, from seasoned climbers to little tykes. Kids will especially love the beginner’s obstacle designed to look like a T-Rex. They also offer yoga and Pilates classes.
